Following a real estate industry information session held by NSW Fair Trading in Newcastle on 12th July 2018, we strongly encourage all owners of pre-1980s homes in the Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Cessnock, Port Stephens, and Maitland council areas to register for free testing for loose-fill asbestos (LFA) in their home. Participation in testing is voluntary and FREE, however registration for testing closes on 31 August 2018 (the deadline has been extended from 31 July 2018).
If loose-fill asbestos is found through the testing process, financial assistance is available to owners and tenants. This includes buy-back options or the significant cost of demolition (if required and agreed to by the owner), removal and disposal of the hazardous materials. Funds are also available to assist with relocation of owners and tenants if required. If you don't know the history of your property or the type of ceiling insulation it has, please take a moment to register for loose fill asbestos testing. Much more information is available via this link on the NSW Fair Trading website. Please share with your family and friends.
